CANVYR is a South African modern rock / nu metal force built on high-impact live performance, heavy melodic hooks and a cinematic brand identity. Emerging from the foundation of Cantrel, the project enters a sharper new era with a bigger sound, bolder visual language and a clear international touring ambition.
Led by the father-and-son creative core of Neil Breytenbach and Jesse Breytenbach, CANVYR carries both legacy and future energy: seasoned musicianship, family chemistry and a relentless commitment to building a world-class rock act from South Africa to the global stage.
The Story
CANVYR represents transformation: the sharpening of a band, a brand and a mission. Where Cantrel established the foundation – live experience, heavy music credentials and a growing audience – CANVYR pushes the identity forward into a more deliberate, international-facing chapter.
The name carries a darker, harder-edged presence: a vessel for power, survival and self-definition. The band’s mantra, DONT BE AVERAGE BE SAVAGE, captures the emotional centre of the project – refuse the ordinary, break the ceiling and bring intensity to every stage, song and visual moment.
Sound & Identity
Musically, CANVYR sits in the lane of modern rock, nu metal and alternative heavy music. The sound is designed around weight, melody and atmosphere: massive choruses, aggressive guitars, commanding vocals, driving rhythm sections and songs built for both festival stages and dark club rooms.
Visually, CANVYR leans into a premium rock aesthetic: black, red, silver and white; controlled fire-glow; cinematic contrast; sharp logo presence; and a symbol-driven identity built for posters, merch, backdrops and international campaign rollouts.

As a performer and songwriter with major South African rock credentials, Neil anchors the project with authority, discipline and a deep understanding of how to deliver professional rock shows at a national and international level.
Jesse Breytenbach – Vocals, Guitar
Jesse Breytenbach brings the next-generation edge: frontman energy, guitar-driven aggression and the hunger to push CANVYR into a larger global lane. His role gives the band its forward motion – a bridge between family legacy and the sound of a new modern rock era.
